Like fresh, supafly wind from the East, Missy Elliott dropped a new song and video at midnight and it's, of course, perfect. "I'm Better," which features Lamb, is both peak Missy and new Missy (I believe the French call it Les Mis E Nouveau). She's still weird, she's still rocking gravity-defying choreography, she's still one of the best rappers in the game, but there's new distilled chill to her style in this song.
Here's seven of the best things about "I'm Better":
Plink-plink-plonk! I'm obsessed. It's so simple, so minimal it almost doesn't exist. This is Missy's quietest song, which is such a powerful switch. Do I miss the yelling from "I'm Really Hot?" OBVIOUSLY. That's legit how I walk into every room. "HO! HO! Yes, I'd like a carnitas bowl with guac, please."
This beat is fire specifically because it's the exact opposite of Missy's normal "throw everything at the track" style.
